FASTest E.coli –K99 Strip Test applicable to – Cattle and Sheep Sample: Faeces The FASTest E.coli-K99 Strip contains two unique monoclonal antibodies. One of these monoclonal antibodies is bonded to colloidal gold particles, the second is immobilised in the Test zone of the strip. If the stool sample extract contains K99 main pilar antigens these will form an antigen-antibody complex with the gold particles. As this complex migrates along the Test zone of the membrane to the immobilised capture antibody, a pink-purple line is formed indicating a positive test result. The remaining conjugate migrates to a second antibody on the Control zone of the strip forming a second pink-purple line. This indicates the correct performance of the test. Sample Storage Samples can be stored for up to 2 days at +2ºC to +8ºC. For longer storage period the faecal suspension can be stored for several months at -20ºC. Why is it important to test for E.coli K99? Diarrhoea is a common problem in calves, typically in the first 7 to 14 days of life and is often caused by more than one pathologic agent e.g. Rotavirus, Coronavirus, Cryptosporidium, Salmonella, Giardia and especially enterotoxigenic strains of E.coli (e.g. K99 (F5), (F41). Making a quick diagnosis on-site is difficult and usually based only on clinical signs. Therefore, as most diarrhoea causing agents do not show a clear pathogenic clinical picture especially in cases of mixed infection, it is useful to have a diagnostic tool to detect the causative agent. The ruled surface is either 0.1mm or 0.2mm below the cover glass, limiting the Volume of 1 Square mm of blood or fluid over a square mm at 0.1cu.mm or 0.2cu.mm respectively. Contact of the flat, polished cover glass surfaces with the cover glass supports produces an exact volume of fluid over the counting area. Laboratory Cleaning Agent (available 1L  £24.00 and 5L £62.00) Decon 90 is the leading surface active cleaning agent and/or radioactive decontaminant for laboratory, medical and industrial applications and is available in 1-Litre and 5-Litre sizes. Decon 90 cleaning agent is supplied in high-density polyethene containers, with tamper evident screw-on caps. This laboratory cleaner is supplied as a liquid concentrate for dilution with water (2% to 5% solution of Decon 90 with water) and is used for both manual cleaning and use in ultrasonic cleaning baths. Problem contaminates can be treated by increasing the solution strength. Method of Use • The items which need cleaning must be immersed fully into the solution and left to soak for a minimum of 2 hours. Classified FASTest FeLV-FIV Combination Test

Feline Leukaemia Virus and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus Test applicable to: Cat Sample: Whole Blood, Serum and Plasma FASTest FeLV-FIV is based on a rapid immunochromatographic technique. Extracellular FeLV-Antigens and/or FIV-Antibodies in the sample will form specific antigen-antibody complexes in the sample area. Lateral flow (migration) towards the FeLV and FIV Test areas (marked ‘T’ on the slide) allows these complexes to bind with gold particles labelled with monoclonal FeLV antibodies and synthetic FIV-Proteins to form a pink-purple Test line. A correct test procedure will be indicated by a second pink-purple line in the Control area (marked ‘C’ on the slide). Why is it important to test for FeLV and FIV? Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) are associated with a wide range of clinical diseases including various infections, anaemia and tumours caused by their ability to damage the cat’s immune system. Persistent FeLV and/or FIV infections can be present in clinically healthy cats. These cats can potentially infect other cats and, in the case of persistent FeLV infection, may not live more than 3 years. Thus it is important that every cat that is brought into the surgery be tested for both FeLV and FIV, including those for FeLV vaccination (AAFP Guidelines 1). What are the symptoms of FeLV-FIV? Clinical signs are progressive deterioration of the cat’s health which can be interspersed with periods of relatively good health. In the early stages of the FeLV infection, it is not unusual for cats to show no signs of the disease at all. It contains two unique monoclonal antibodies. One of these monoclonal antibodies is bonded to latex particles; the second is immobilized in the test zone of the strip. If the stool sample extract contains Giardia antigen, these will form an antigen-antibody complex with the latex particles. Giardia duodenalis (syn. G. lamblia or G. intestinalis) is a protozoan parasite commonly inhabiting the upper intestinal tract of dogs, cats and a wide range of other animals including humans. Rivalta FIP-VETube Test applicable to: Cat Sample: Abdominal or pleural effusion material The RIVALTA FIP-VETube test is a simple, fast, on-site test which allows the veterinarian to detect or exclude an on-going FIP infection with a high degree of reliability, and is suitable for use in any veterinary practice. Aid to Differentiate cause of Effusion The test is an aid to differentiate between effusions caused by FIP (exudates) and those caused by other diseases (transudates). Test Principle Protein in the effusion is detected by adding a drop to the aqua-acetic acid mixture. This can be observed by the characteristic formation of more or less stable precipitation products or cloudy mists, forming drops or smears. In contrast, a transudate completely dissolves during sinking in the aqua-acetic acid mixture. The Rivalta test is not pathognomic for FIP but nevertheless has a very good sensitivity of 98% (high negative predictive value) and a specificity of 80%. Canine Ovulation Test applicable to - Dog Sample: Serum or Plasma TARGET Canine Ovulation Test is a rapid semi-quantitative ELISA test on a membrane for the visual estimation of the Progesterone level in plasma or serum of the bitch. Its main use is to determine and monitor the period of ovulation to predict the correct time to mate. Canine Progesterone Ovulation is triggered by Luteinising Hormone (LH) which peaks two days before ovulation. Progesterone levels then begin to rise at the same time as the LH surge. After ovulation the ovocytes take 2-3 days to ripen making the most fertile period 5-6 days after the initial rise in Progesterone. Thus measuring Progesterone is the most accurate method of determining the correct time to mate. Sample Preparation A centrifuge is essential to prepare the sample from whole blood. Samples must not contain red cells or any significant amount of haemolysis (red colour) or lipaemia (white colour/fat).
